WASHINGTON TERRACE — Just in time for Midterm Election season, residents will have an opportunity to learn about how many of them ultimately gained the right to vote and how that voting process is upheld and protected.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, the Weber County League of Women Voters will host a Voter Rights Celebration at the Weber County Library’s Pleasant Valley Branch in Washington Terrace at 6 p.m. The evening will include guest speakers Neylan McBaine — author of “Pioneering the Vote: The Untold Story of Suffragists in Utah and the West” — and Weber County Auditor/Clerk Ricky Hatch.

Terri McCulloch, president of the Weber County League of Women Voters, told the Standard-Examiner that the night’s featured speakers will go over both the past and present of voting locally.

“(McBaine) is going to tell us the history in the U.S. — but mostly focus on Utah — of how people got the right to vote,” McCulloch said. “She’ll talk about that and sign her books if anybody has the books. And then Ricky Hatch will follow her, and he’s going to talk about how the ballots are processed in Weber County and the security of Weber County.”

Additionally, McCulloch said there will also be people portraying famous suffragists from history in period-accurate clothing throughout the event.

“They will meet with the public and explain a little bit about who they are,” she said.

She noted that the event will be open and free to the public and that light refreshments will be served.

“We hope families will come,” she said. “It’s time we learn how we got our vote, our right to vote here.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
