SALT LAKE CITY — A billboard company took down an advertisement for the dating website “Where White People Meet” after reportedly receiving complaints, the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

The dating company said on its Twitter account it did not decide to take down its advertisement and that it plans to place another advertisement soon.

It was NOT our decision to pull the billboard.”Compass Billboards” in Utah pulled it due to complaints. What a shame. Will have another soon

The advertisement at 5600 West and 2100 South turned heads and made national headlines, and the company owner, Sam Russell of Layton, said he is not racist and the website is open to all people.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the website’s membership rose from five on Dec. 31, when the billboard had gone up, to more than 1,000 on Jan. 4.
