Swingin’ Hot Pizza brings the flavor of New York to Pleasant View
PLEASANT VIEW — There’s a new way to eat pizza in Northern Utah and it’s Swingin’ Hot.
Unsure of what “swingin’ hot” means?
James and Tammy Hoyt are happy to provide the definition inside their new restaurant, Swingin’ Hot Pizza in Pleasant View.
The couple says the food business has always been in their sights, so when they decided to open a pizzeria, they wanted to learn from some of the best in the industry.
“We went to New York and we worked in Goodfella’s Pizza for a week and went to their pizza school,” James said.
They returned to Utah with brick oven certifications and a book of New York pizza recipes. Swingin’ Hot Pizza opened in June.
“Everybody loves pizza,” James said. “The concept of being able to cook it in a brick oven makes it different than any other pizza places around here.”
Popular pizza lingo was the inspiration for the name of the business and menu items.
“When you’re pulling the pizza out of the oven you yell ‘swingin hot’ so everybody knows that you’ve got a hot pie coming out.” James said.
Common pizza phrases and definitions also adorn the walls inside the restaurant.
Each 12-inch pizza is prepared with homemade, hand-tossed dough before it’s topped with fresh mozzarella, homemade sauce and fresh toppings. It is then cooked in a wood-fired brick oven.
The brick oven is heated to just under 700 degrees Fahrenheit, and a wheel inside rotates to help roast the pizza evenly in about three minutes.
“The taste of our pizza is different,” Tammy said. “We’re not franchised, we’re not corporate.”
Some menu favorites include a vegetarian pizza named The Bad Hunter, a meat lovers pizza named The Barbarian and a spicy pizza they call El Diablo. Additionally, they offer gluten-free crust, gourmet pizzas, side salads, desserts and a kid’s meal.
Customers also have the option to create their own pizza and salad by customizing the toppings.
“The owners are real friendly and they make an effort to get to know you,” customer Alicia Carillo said. “We have two small kids and they’ll special-cut the pizza for us.”
Swingin’ Hot Pizza is located at 2707 Parkland Blvd. Orders can be placed at 801-675-5770 and picked up at the drive-up window.
