Unemployment for Weber County measured 2.2% for February, according to figures released Monday, March 28, 2022.

OGDEN — Unemployment in Weber County edged down a notch from January to 2.2% in February, according to stats released Monday.

Last December, the jobless figure fell to 1.8%, its lowest point in the county at least since December 1990, according to Utah Department of Workforce Services and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data. It climbed to 2.3% for January and fell to 2.2% for February, the latest figure available.

The February number for Weber County compares to the statewide unemployment figure of 2.1%, which represents 35,300 people out of work across the state. Unemployment elsewhere in Utah measured 1.9% in Davis County, 2.2% in Salt Lake County and 1.7% in Utah County.

Mark Knold, chief economist in the Department of Workforce Services, offered a rosy outlook in announcing the statewide jobless figure last week.

“All of Utah’s major industry sectors have returned to, or are exceeding, their pre-pandemic employment levels. Job availability and job hiring are churning at a strong pace. Workers keep getting hired, and the unemployment rate continues to decrease,” he said. “Few other states have an economy functioning as strongly as Utah’s.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
