EDEN — Nordic Valley is open for business, the second of the three Weber County ski resorts to start operations for the season.

The Eden-area resort opened for business on Wednesday — the earliest opening ever for Nordic Valley — thanks to early season snowfall and the work of snow-making machines, according to spokesperson Abbey Scott. Snowbasin opened Nov. 18, the earliest start date for that Huntsville-area resort.

For now, just one lift and one trail, the Gold Rush trail, are open at Nordic Valley, but Scott noted that snow is in the forecast, boding for more operable runs. Five new black diamond runs, primarily glade skiing, are to open this season, she said.

“Crowds are super minimal. We are averaging around 200 people throughout the whole day so far. More terrain will be opened after the incoming storm,” Scott said. That weather system, expected next week, could dump as much as 21 inches of white stuff on Nordic Valley.

Powder Mountain, the third Weber County resort, is to formally open Dec. 8, though that could change depending on the output of the coming storm. It relies solely on natural snowfall.
