OGDEN — People who live and commute near 554 Washington Blvd. will see their dine-out breakfast options expanded in the coming weeks.

The Donut Run is slated to open its first Ogden-area location sometime in late January or February, bringing with it a variety of glazed treats, a Texas favorite with European roots in savory kolaches and more.

“Kolaches are really a big stand apart from other doughnut shops,” operating partner Ryan Duvall told the Standard-Examiner. “They’re perfect for every occasion.”

The chain, which currently has locations in Spanish Fork, American Fork and St. George, was launched when Duvall and his partners bought a Cowboy Donuts location, in addition to the recipes, processes and equipment used to make the doughnuts and kolaches the restaurant is known for.

Initially, the store continued to operate as Cowboy Donuts via a licensing agreement with the original owners, who kept a location in Rock Springs, Wyoming. In the end, though, Duvall and his partners wanted to put their personal stamp on the growing business’ branding and overall feel.

“We grew up in Pleasant Grove, and we’d always go to Daylight Donuts. Our coaches or our teachers would always ask us to pile money together and have somebody go on a doughnut run, and that’s kind of where that name came from,” Duvall revealed.

Although the new location will largely offer the same menu items as its counterparts, owners also will be adding craft sodas into the mix via The Soda Run, further diversifying the dining experience for patrons.

Duvall described the construction process as being nearly complete, with branded wall wraps and the final pieces of equipment being among the last items to check off before the shop’s grand opening. He and his partners are anxious to finish the work so they can bring their food to patrons in Ogden.

“We love doughnuts and we love sharing our treats with everybody that wants to try them out,” he said.
