Ogden schools receive $300,000 grant

OGDEN — The Ogden School District has been awarded a $300,000 grant from Utah’s STEM Action Center.

The grant money is to be used to better prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

The grant brings together partners from education, government and industry to research and create programs that foster student interest and participation in STEM education from kindergarten to college. Among the partners are Ogden City, Hill Air Force Base, the Department of Workforce Services, Ogden School District, Weber State University, Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College, Northrup Grumman, Parker Hannifin Corporation, Purch, Williams International, The Boeing Company, L3 Communications and Logistics Specialties Inc.

Money from the grant will enhance Ogden School District’s current STEM efforts, including its Career Technical Education (CTE) program, college credit classes for high school students, and the STEM Hub and League initiative. High school students will also be encouraged to prepare for careers by earning industry certifications in engineering and information technology, or a proposed Advanced Composites certificate.

The grant also covers after-school programs, camps and tutoring related to STEM education, as well as teacher training incentive programs.
