OGDEN — The Leadership Learning Academy is opening a satellite campus in Ogden.

The free, public charter school is under construction at 1111 2nd Street in Ogden near Harrison Boulevard and is slated to open this fall.

The school first opened in Layton in August 2013, and the Ogden campus will be a replica, using the same Project CHILD teaching model.

Director Heidi Bauerle said the goal has always been to grow, especially after the success of the Layton location.

Bauerle said part of Project CHILD, which stands for Changing How Instruction for Learning is Delivered, pairs a student with a cluster of teachers for several years at a time. The model also incorporates small-group project learning.

“It’s really a student-driven, fantastic model,” she said.

Leadership Learning Academy will serve students in first through sixth grade, and Bauerle said the Ogden location might also offer kindergarten classes should the need arise.

The building will open to 513 students during the first school year and is slated to fill to its capacity of 567 students annually after that.

The academy is holding open-door informational meetings for interested parents at the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College Corporate Training Center. The sessions will be at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16, March 2, April 6, May 4, June 1 and July 6.
