The Weber School District's two new elementary schools will feature collaborative learning spaces and are going to open in fall 2019.

Two new Weber district elementary schools — one in Farr West and the other in Pleasant View — now have names.

The school in Farr West will be named Silver Ridge Elementary, chosen “because of the beautiful views from the school of the Wasatch Mountains to the east and the Promontory Mountains to the west, and how the mountain ridges can sometimes appear silver in color,” according to a Weber School District Facebook post.

Orchard Springs Elementary is the name of the new school in Pleasant View, which stands on land that was once used to grow orchards.

Members of the Weber Board of Education selected the names at their March 6 board meeting from submissions based on “input from students, parents, and the community,” according to a district Facebook posts about both schools.

The design of the two schools is the same, though Silver Ridge Elementary will have one additional wing.

This wing will be used for special education students from surrounding schools, who will attend school at the Silver Ridge building after the school opens.

Administrators were chosen for the schools about a month prior to the names being selected. Mary Jo Williams, currently principal at Midland Elementary, will be the principal of Orchard Springs. Brian Anderson, currently principal at Pioneer Elementary, will be the principal of Silver Ridge, said Lane Findlay, spokesperson for the district, in an email.

Both administrators worked with their new school communities to generate ideas for school names, Findlay said.

Both schools will open in fall 2019.

Starting at $4.32/week.
