The Taylor Canyon Elementary building in Ogden is photographed Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022. The building is to be demolished later in the year.

OGDEN — The end is near.

Taylor Canyon Elementary, now shuttered, will soon be demolished. Before the walls of the East Bench school come tumbling down, though, Ogden School District officials are holding a goodbye ceremony from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday outside the building. It’s located at 2130 Taylor Ave.

“This is primarily an opportunity for community members to gather at the school to share memories and possibly reconnect with old friends,” said Jer Bates, the district spokesperson.

What’s more, the district is offering bricks of the school as keepsakes via an online form. “We want people who feel they will miss the old school to have an opportunity to have a keepsake,” Bates said.

Demolition work at the site is scheduled to start as early as next Monday.

The school’s final class of students left after the end of the 2021-2022 school year. It was closed due to declining enrollment in the system and the age of the facility, built in 1950. New district boundaries send some of the former Taylor Canyon students to Polk Elementary and some to New Bridge Elementary.
