Weber State University is teaming with Sonora Grill in Ogden for the annual Dining for Dollars initiative meant to raise scholarship funds for low-income and first-generation college students.

OGDEN — Weber State University is teaming with Sonora Grill this week in an effort to raise scholarship funds for low-income and first-generation students.

On Thursday, the Mexican restaurant in Ogden will host Dining for Dollars, donating 100% of proceeds from the day to Weber State’s Oportunidad Scholarship fund, geared to low-income, first-generation and undocumented students who don’t qualify for federal aid, grants or loans. It’s the 10th annual installment of the initiative, which has raised nearly $200,000 since its launch.

“There are star students out there who, due to their circumstances, can sometimes slip through the cracks,” Steve Ballard, owner of Sonora Grill, said in a statement. “Many of them would have won or qualified for scholarships, but because they don’t live in the state or because they don’t have residency, they don’t qualify for aid and they’re forgotten.”

Sonora Grill is located at 2310 Kiesel Ave. Those wanting to take part may dine in or carry out or donate directly to weber.edu/Dining4Dollars.
