LAYTON — Weber State University’s Davis campus notified students Thursday of a vandalism incident involving Nazi imagery, one week after a similar incident at the main WSU campus in Ogden.

According to a release sent to students, faculty and staff Thursday afternoon, “around 11 a.m. on Oct. 5, a Northern Utah Academy of Engineering and Science (NUAMES) student in Building 2 at the WSU Davis campus informed the front desk that they found a scratched-out swastika and a Star of David etched into a table in the hallway on the third floor. WSU Davis and NUAMES administrators were notified, and WSU Davis administrators removed the table.”

“The WSU Police Department was notified of the markings and are reviewing this incident further,” the university’s message continued. “Exactly when the vandalism occurred is unclear and the perpetrator has not been identified, but WSU police are screening surveillance footage from the area and plan to continue regular patrols of the building.”

WSU spokesperson Bryan Magaña confirmed the incident had occurred and said that there were no leads on a suspect as of Friday afternoon. No further details were available, he added.

“Beyond the defacement of WSU property, the symbol found at WSU Davis does not represent the values and goals of our university,” the release continues. “Across Weber State campuses, we’re committed to creating an environment where students have a true sense of belonging and safety. We condemn any action that perpetuates harmful biases or makes people feel unsafe.”

This marks the second instance of swastika vandalism on a WSU campus in a week. Last Thursday, a similar etching was found on a table on the Ogden campus. That table was also removed and the incident is being investigated.

Anyone with information on the Davis incident is encouraged to call Weber State police at 801-626-6460.
