OGDEN — The Internal Revenue Service is looking for a few good men and women, about 5,000 of them.

The federal agency, which has a huge presence in the Ogden area, is recruiting to fill 5,000 posts in all for service processing centers in Ogden; Austin, Texas; and Kansas City, Missouri. More than 1,000 of the posts are for Ogden-area IRS offices, according to Raphael Tulino, an IRS spokesman.

“It’s a big deal,” he said. Such a large-scale recruiting drive is “definitely not the norm.”

As part of the effort, in-person job fairs are planned for Thursday and Friday at the Utah Department of Workforce Services office in Clearfield at 1290 E. 1450 South from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. IRS reps will review resumes and make job offers on the spot to eligible applicants.

Jobs include temporary and permanent jobs, many of them entry-level clerk and tax examiner positions that don’t require prior tax expertise. An IRS press release says the posts to be filled aim to help taxpayers during the tax season and hirees will likely start working within 30-45 days of job offers.

“Those who wish to work with customer service as their focus are encouraged to apply. This is gratifying work as these newly hired individuals will process tax returns and deliver refunds to the nation’s taxpayers,” said IRS Taxpayer Experience Officer and Wage and Investment Commissioner Ken Corbin. The jobs the IRS is hoping to fill, he said, can be stepping stones to other posts in the agency.

Interested job seekers should bring their resume and two forms of identification. Applicants are also encouraged to create a usajobs.gov account, build or upload a resume and email it to recruiter4information@irs.gov prior to attending an in-person event. The Ogden IRS recruitment team can be reached at 801-620-4562 or wi.ogden.recruitment@irs.gov.

The IRS is one of the largest employers in Weber County, with some 5,000 workers.

Starting at $4.32/week.
