OGDEN — The clock is ticking to cast your ballot.

After all the knocking on doors by candidates, posting of signs, television ads and more, the 2022 election season is reaching its grand finale — ballots have to be turned in by 8 p.m. Tuesday. To mail a ballot via the U.S. Postal Service, it has to have been postmarked by Monday, so use a drop box instead if you didn’t meet that deadline.

In-person voting on Tuesday goes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and in Weber County it will be held at the Weber County Fairgrounds, 100 N. 1200 West in Ogden, and at the Ogden Valley Branch library, 131 S. 7400 East in Huntsville. Likwise, mail-in ballots may be dropped off at 21 drop boxes around the Weber County until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

If you haven’t already, you may register to vote on Tuesday and cast a provisional ballot.

Go to the Weber County Elections Office website at weberelections.gov for more details, including the list of candidates in Weber County and drop box locations.

The U.S. Senate race between Republican incumbent Mike Lee and independent challenger Evan McMullin has garnered the most attention among the varied Utah races. You’ve probably seen the TV ads. But a lot more is at stake this cycle in Weber County.

Several seats in the Utah Legislature are up for grabs, including the District 10 Utah House seat sought by Democratic incumbent Rosemary Lesser and GOP challenger Jill Koford, which, judging by contributions, has mustered the most interest of any local Weber County race. With the incumbent District 8 Utah House rep choosing not to run, a newcomer will be picked to fill the post — Democrat Monica Hall or Republican Jason Kyle.

Two Weber County Commission posts are up for election, and with the decision by the incumbent in one of them, Scott Jenkins, not to run again, the body will be getting at least one new face.

Two Ogden school board posts are contested — incumbent Douglas Barker and Stacy Bernal are running for the District 2 spot and incumbent Amber Allred and Jeremy Shinoda are running for the District 4 spot. In the Weber School District, incumbent Janis Christensen and Heidi Gross are running for the District 6 spot.

Harrisville voters are weighing in on a $6 million bond proposal for funds to build a new city rec center.

Back at the federal level, U.S. Rep. Blake Moore, a Republican, is seeking his second term in the 1st District spot, challenged by Democrat Rick Jones.

Among other races in Davis County, two Republicans are duking it out for the District 16 Utah House race — GOP-endorsed hopeful Trevor Lee and Stephen Handy, the Republican incumbent running as a write-in. Libertarian Brent Zimmerman is also on the ballot. Davis County voters will also be voting on a $475 million bond proposal put forward by the Davis School District to raise funds to upgrade existing schools and build new ones.

Weber County Clerk/Auditor Ricky Hatch is expecting turnout in the county among active registered voters of 75%. That’s down from earlier estimates from his office of around 80% and down from 87% in 2018.
