OGDEN — It’s getting close to the home stretch for the 2022 election cycle, with the varied candidates for office pounding the pavement, putting up signs and ratcheting up the social media messaging as they vie for support.

Weber County voters will have a chance to mingle with 15 of the candidates at a forum on Saturday in Ogden. It’s scheduled to go from 4-6 p.m. and will be held at 726 25th St., hosted by Sean Bishop and Taylor Knuth, who are active in Ogden civic matters.

“This is for the voting public to have an opportunity to meet the candidates,” said Gina Timmerman with the Utah Campaigns Co-op, an Ogden-based group that organized the event.

Those who have indicated they plan to attend on Saturday include independent U.S. Senate hopeful Evan McMullin, who’s challenging GOP incumbent Mike Lee, and the two 1st District U.S. House hopefuls, Republican Blake Moore, the incumbent, and Democratic challenger Rick Jones.

One of the closely watched races in Weber County is the contest for the District 10 seat in the Utah House between Democrat Rosemary Lesser, the incumbent, and GOP challenger Jill Koford. Lesser is the only Democratic lawmaker in the Legislature from outside Salt Lake County and both Democrats and Republicans say they are putting a big focus on the race. Lesser and Koford have told organizers they plan to attend Saturday.

District 10 covers parts of southern Ogden and South Ogden, northern Riverdale and northern Washington Terrace.

The District 8 Utah House race pits two newcomers, Republican Jason Kyle and Democrat Monica Hall. Rep. Steve Waldrip, a Republican, opted not to seek reelection to the seat, which covers Ogden’s East Bench and other portions of the city as well as part of North Ogden and the Ogden Valley. Both Kyle and Hall are expected to attend on Saturday.

Others to be attending the Ogden event are Utah Sen. Ann Millner, a Republican seeking reelection to the District 5 seat, and District 9 Utah House Rep. Calvin Musselman, a Republican. Millner faces a challenge from Democrat Michael Blodgett while Musselman faces challenges from Democrat Neil Hansen and Libertarian Jacob Johnson.

The two hopefuls for Seat B on the Weber County Commission will attend, Republican Sharon Bolos and Libertarian Brian Rowley, as well as the Democratic hopeful for the Seat A County Commission spot, John Thompson. Incumbent Gage Froerer is the GOP hopeful for the Seat A post.

Ogden school board member Amber Allred, seeking reelection to the District 4 post, will be there as well as challenger Jeremy Shinoda, according to organizers. Stacy Bernal, challenging Douglas Barker for the District 2 Ogden school board post, also plans to attend.

Saturday’s forum is the first public campaign event in Weber County drawing so many hopefuls. But more events are planned in the lead up to Election Day, Nov. 8.

The Weber County League of Women Voters is hosting a forum featuring the candidates for Ogden and Weber school boards at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Pleasant Valley Library in Washington Terrace.

The group is hosting a forum featuring the hopefuls for seats A and B on the Weber County Commission at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Main Branch library in Ogden. The next day, Oct. 6, it’s hosting a forum featuring the hopefuls for the varied Utah House and Senate posts serving Weber County that are on the ballot, also at the Pleasant Valley Library and also starting at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Davis County Clerk/Auditor’s Office invites the public to Davis County Commission chambers at the Davis County Administration building at 61 S. Main St. in Farmington for the Secure Elections Town Hall and Tour. It starts at 6 p.m.

The aim is to enlighten the public on election security measures in Davis County. “Officials will discuss everything from how the Clerk’s Office updates voter registration rolls and counts ballots to how they check signatures and prevent fraud. A tour of Davis County’s Elections Center is included,” reads a press release.
