OGDEN — The candidates for the many municipal posts up for grabs across Weber County have filed to run and the 2023 election season is coming into focus.

The filing period ended last Wednesday and here’s a look at the hopefuls, starting with Hooper, which will feature the only mayoral race in Weber County outside of Ogden:

Hooper: The two mayoral hopefuls are Sheri Bingham and Greg Simpson and whoever wins, the city will get a new leader.

Dale Fowers, the incumbent mayor, is running this cycle for one of two at-large seats on the City Council that come open. He’ll be joined on the ballot by Chris Paulsen, Michael Elmer, Wes Davis, Kamie Hubbard, Ryan Hill, Cindy Cox and Jennifer Stanger. Incumbents Lisa Nothrop and Bryce Wilcox aren’t running again.

A primary will narrow the list of eight City Council hopefuls to four.

Now for the other hopefuls outside of Ogden, starting with Weber County’s larger cities.

Roy: Three at-large City Council seats are up for grabs and the hopefuls include incumbents Joe Paul and Ann Jackson along with Bryon Saxton, who previously served on the body but is not a current incumbent. Also running are Claude Payne, Benjamin Pearson, Davis Young, Jeremy Thompson, Trent Wilkins, Jeremy Brighton and Ethan Shepherd. Incumbent Diane Wilson is not running.

A primary will be held to winnow the field of 10 to six for the general election.

West Haven: Three at-large seats are on the ballot and all three incumbents, Nina Morse, Kim Dixon and Carrie Call, are running. They will be joined by Sharon Hilton, Jim McGregor and Clarence Kelley. The contest will not require a primary.

North Ogden: Three at-large seats on the City Council come open and incumbents Ryan Barker and Phillip Swanson are running again, along with Chris Pulver, Christina Watson, Tim Billings, Reed Miller and Merrill Sunderland. Incumbent Charlotte Ekstrom is not running again.

A primary will narrow the list of seven candidates to six, who will make it to the November ballot.

South Ogden: Three at-large seats on the City Council come open and the candidates are incumbent Jeannette Smyth along with Jeremy Howe, Eric Lee and Doug Stephens. Incumbents Susan Stewart and Mike Howard are not running again.

The candidates will go directly to the November ballot, without a primary.

Farr West: Three at-large City Council seats are up for grabs in Farr West, but just two candidates filed to run, Bob Blind and David Jay, neither of them among the incumbents.

Harrisville: Three at large City-Council seats come open and the candidates are incumbents Grover Wilhelmsen and Blair Christensen along with Karen Taylor-Fawcett, Dan Gilboy and Michael Shinsel. The third post coming open is held by Kenny Loveland but he’s not running again.

The five hopefuls will go directly to the November ballot.

Marriott-Slaterville: Three City Council seats are on the ballot and the only competition, barring write-ins, will be in the West District race between incumbent Rob Smout and Corey Smith.

Incumbent Dee Christofferson is the only hopeful for the at-large post up for grabs. Incumbent Dennis Illum is the only hopeful for the East District seat.

Riverdale: Three at-large City Council spots in Riverdale are on the ballot and the three incumbents, Karina Merrill, Steve Hilton and Alan Arnold, are running, joined by Michael Richter. They’ll all go straight to the November ballot.

Plain City: Eight hopefuls are running for three at-large City Council seats, including incumbents Rachael Beal and Melvin Sadler along with Jamie Thompson, Chase Holmes, Jan Wilson, Miles Robinson, Adam Favero and Jeffrey Zitzelberger. Incumbent Todd Skeen, who holds the third seat coming open, isn’t running again.

The eight candidates will meet in the primary, which will narrow the list to six for the November ballot.

Pleasant View: In Pleasant View, incumbent City Council members Sara Urry, Ann Arrington and Dave Marriott will be joined by Derek Draper and Robert Knapp in the race for three at-large council posts. They’ll all go directly to the November ballot.
