HOOPER — Hooper City is set to get a new mayor — and that new mayor’s name is Sheri Bingham.

As of Wednesday night, Bingham had 1,379 votes (58.83%) versus 965 votes (41.17%) favoring Greg Simpson.

According to Weber County Clerk/Auditor Ricky Hatch, an estimated 99% of ballots have been counted and only a handful will be processed following the Thanksgiving holiday.

Bingham told the Standard-Examiner she’s excited to represent the city.

“I once had someone say to me that they thought I loved Hooper more than my family and my response to them was, ‘Hooper is family,'” she said. “I am a generational person that has always lived here. I can’t think of any better people than that live here in Hooper and I feel honored to be able to serve them.”

She added that there’s a lot of work to do before taking office.

“I’m just going to continue to try to get ideas together, try to do research,” she said. “I feel like maybe some of our ordinances and codes need to be updated or maybe tweaked. I know I’ll be doing a lot of studying.”

Current Mayor Dale Fowers opted to run for a position on the Hooper City Council, also winning his race.

The results of the election are unofficial and will be canvassed in two weeks.

Starting at $4.32/week.
