Preliminary results are out for Weber County in the 2024 primary.

In the Republican race for state auditor, Weber County Clerk/Auditor Ricky Hatch (112,582 votes, 43.06%) was trailing Deputy State Auditor Tina Cannon (148,848 votes, 56.94%) statewide as of 9:15 p.m. with 23 of 29 counties having at least partially reported.

In Weber County, Hatch (13,785 votes, 60.40%) was ahead of Cannon (9,039 votes, 39.60%).

The winner of the state auditor’s race will face Democratic candidate Catherine Voutaz and Constitution Party candidate Jeffrey L. Ostler in the November election.

Tuesday’s primary election included a unique set of circumstances.

As Weber County’s Clerk/Auditor, Hatch would normally be closely involved with the election.

However, he told the Standard-Examiner on Monday that he’s going above and beyond state statute to avoid the appearance of any wrongdoing as he runs for state office.

“Although it’s not required by state law, when I am on the ballot, I do not touch any ballots or envelopes throughout the election,” Hatch said in an email. “I voluntarily gave up my access to the voter registration database and am not involved in decisions that could impact the results of the election. I am still fully aware of the ballot processing and provide appropriate help wherever I can. I’m fortunate to have such a strong, experienced team to run the election without my hands-on involvement.”

In the District 1 U.S. House race, Republican incumbent Blake Moore (56,424 votes, 72.99%) held a wide lead over challenger Paul Miller (20,884 votes, 27.01%) with all eight district counties having at least partially reported.

The winner of this race will face Democratic candidate Bill Campbell and Libertarian candidate Daniel R. Cottam in the November election.

Hatch said the numbers released Tuesday night comprised results from ballots mailed in and collected from drop-boxes up until Tuesday morning. The remaining ballots will be counted and numbers disseminated as the week continues.

Weber County’s results for the primary election will remain unofficial until canvasing at the July 9 Weber County Commission meeting.
