Johnson tabbed as Ogden’s full-time economic development director
OGDEN — Jared Johnson is poised to drop the “acting” qualifier from his current position as acting community and economic development director for Ogden City.
According to a press release, Mayor Ben Nadolski has appointed Johnson to assume the position on a full-time basis.
“Jared is the right person at the right time to lead the Community and Economic Development team into the future,” Nadolski said in the release. “His decades of experience coupled with his integrity, leadership abilities, and thoughtful problem-solving skills make him the prime candidate for this administration. He’s a collaborative team player for both internal staff and external partners. He continues to move projects forward, forging partnerships and alliances with invested stakeholders. Jared will be an integral part of our success.”
The release adds that “Johnson has been Acting Director of Community and Economic Development (CED) since January of this year. Prior to that, Johnson was the Deputy Director of CED where he oversaw the return of commercial air service to Ogden Airport, moved major development projects forward, and is currently managing the WonderBlock development. Johnson has also supervised staff and programs to ensure organizational success. Before his term as Deputy Director began in August of 2022, Johnson was the Building Services Manager being hired to Ogden in July of 2015.”
He took over the position of acting director in January following the resignation of Brandon Cooper, who had held the position since May 2022.
Johnson said these experiences have prepared him well to take on the position.
“My extensive background in large construction projects has enabled me to gain the experience necessary to lead this highly critical city department,” he said in the release. “I take great pride in my ability to form and strengthen relationships both internally and externally. I have been able to overcome hurdles and gather support by engaging with others, including various internal city departments, while progressing through development challenges. I look forward to leading a team where employees feel empowered to contribute their unique perspectives to reach our collective goals.”
The city is soliciting public feedback about the appointment, which can be left by email at citycouncil@ogdencity.com, by phone at 801-629-8158 or in person when the Ogden City Council convenes Tuesday. Johnson’s appointment will then be deliberated by the council during the body’s April 9 meeting.
