OGDEN — During its regular meeting at the Weber Center on Tuesday, the Weber County Board of Commissioners authorized work at the Weber County Sports Complex and the Ice Sheet as part of the ongoing, grant-funded renovation of the facility.

Todd Ferrario of the Weber County Culture, Parks & Recreation Department told the commissioners that the work, contracted to the industrial refrigeration engineering and service firm L.A. Roser, will result in the replacement of “about 80%” of the Ice Sheet’s equipment room infrastructure. The contract specifies that a new chiller and compressors will be installed.

Ferrario clarified that this is just the first of several projects planned using money awarded to the county through the Olympic and Paralympic Venues Grant Fund — administered by the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management — to renovate winter sports and Olympic legacy venues. The county was awarded $3.8 million through the grant program.

The commission also approved contracts with VitalCore Health Strategies LLC and Garrett Dental Services PLLC to provide inmate medical and dental care, respectively, at the Weber County Jail.

Lt. Joshua Marigoni of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office explained that dental services provided by Garrett were previously part of a larger agreement with VitalCore. The county has opted to contract directly with the vendor for those services moving forward.

The commission also approved a new appointment to the Ogden Valley Planning Commission. Laura Warburton of Huntsville, the sole applicant for the role, will replace David Morby on the seven-member board. Morby resigned due to health concerns, according to Weber County Planning Director Rick Grover.

Warburton will serve a three-year term with the planning commission through June 2028. Grover also noted that there would be additional commission vacancies in June.

The commission also approved a contract between the county and the U.S. Forest Service to provide law enforcement service from Memorial Day to Labor Day with reimbursement for overtime. The contract states that the forest service has needs for additional help “when recreation loads are heavy in and around Pineview Reservoir, South Fork Canyon, and Snow Basin.”

The agreement further states that “specific attention” will be paid to national forest campgrounds, off-highway areas on the Ogden Ranger District and other areas in the upper valley.

Other approved action items include a contract between the county and Master’s Touch Printing Services for printing, mailing and emailing valuation notices and tax notices, an agreement between the county and an updated interlocal agreement between the county and West Haven City for assistance with road maintenance and storm drain services.

The Weber County Commission meets every Tuesday. Commission meetings are viewable online via the county’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@webercountyutah/.

Starting at $4.32/week.
