Intermountain Healthcare to build new Layton hospital
The Intermountain Healthcare system announced Friday, Nov. 20, that it plans to build a new hospital in Layton.
LAYTON — Intermountain Healthcare plans to build a new hospital in Layton. Construction will likely start early next year with an estimated date of Spring 2018 for the hospital to open.
“We’re currently in the planning and design phase,” said Chris Dallin of Intermountain Healthcare.
Land has already been selected for the hospital’s site. The new hospital will be on the west side of Layton Parkway.
Dallin added that the hospital will be 220,000 square feet and will be accompanied by an 100,000-square-foot medical office building.
Intermountain Healthcare owns land that is bifurcated by the Parkway. Forty acres is on the south and 18 acres on the north. Dallin said that construction will be on the south 40 acres.
Also, the new hospital is planning to have a presence for Primary Children’s Hospital, Dallin said.
He stressed that Intermountain Healthcare is still following a careful process leading to the construction of the hospital and medical center.
“We want to make sure we’re thorough,” he said.
Layton Mayor Bob Stevenson called the Intermountain Healthcare hospital an excellent addition to the community.
“I remember in the 1970s, when we opened Davis Hospital, what an exciting event it was,” he said. The new hospital in Layton will also serve the roughly 20 percent of McKay-Dee Hospital patients who live in Davis County, he added.
The inclusion of a Primary Children’s Hospital presence is an added plus, Stevenson continued. “All of us who have kids and grandkids want the best care for our children.”
According to Dallin, there are no estimates yet of how much it will cost to build the hospital.
