New Ogden restaurant Even Stevens uses ‘buy one get one’ approach to help needy
Even under Utah's new proximity rule slated to take effect May 9, the Even Stevens sandwich shop kitty-corner from the LDS Temple in downtown Ogden might still be about 4 feet too close to qualify for a liquor license.

OGDEN – Brand new customers at a sandwich shop that opened Wednesday saw peace signs sprinkled throughout the store’s decor – a sign that reflects the store’s commitment to helping the needy.
Even Stevens on Washington Boulevard held its grand opening Wednesday, April 6.
“I think we’ll do phenomenal in Ogden,” said Mikaela Shafer, Even Stevens assistant manager and founder of Indie Ogden. “Ogden loves supporting local businesses and Even Stevens loves supporting the local community. When our neighbors are in need we pull together and Even Stevens does that.”

The Ogden Even Stevens, the fifth location of the growing Even Stevens restaurants, partners with Ogden nonprofits Catholic Community Services of Northern Utah, Community Action Partnerships, Youth Futures Shelter Home and the Boys & Girls Club of Weber-Davis.
“We not only donate to our partners, but we try to raise awareness about what they do,” said Jamie Coates, brand director for Even Stevens. “Our founder, Steve Down, saw the opportunity to marry the “buy one get one” idea to the restaurant industry. The concept creates cultural change that is needed.”
At the end of each month, Even Stevens tallies its sandwich sales and puts that amount into food distributor accounts from which the nonprofits can order sandwich-making ingredients. Volunteers then assemble the sandwiches in their kitchens.
“Its a perfect business in the perfect place. It is a great addition for Ogden,” said Chuck Leonhard, Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce’s Spikers committee member and North Ogden resident.
Even Stevens is located at 2214 Washington Boulevard and is serving breakfast, salad and sandwiches Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and is open Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
