UTA riders can now purchase bus, light rail tickets using app

Ride the bus often? You can now purchase and download tickets on your phone with the Utah Transit Authority’s new app.

UTA launched its GoRide app on Tuesday, Sept. 26, for iPhone and Android devices. Users can purchase single-ride fares or day passes for one or multiple riders traveling at the same time on bus, TRAX and S-Line services, according to UTA’s website.

At this time, tickets for the FrontRunner commuter train can’t be purchased on the app, but UTA Chief Safety Officer Dave Goeres told The Salt Lake Tribune that ticketing option will come later.

Tickets can be bought and activated at any point in time. A one-way fare is $2.50, a day pass is $6.25 and one-way reduced pass for seniors is $1.25. Riders must activate and show the ticket in the app to an inspect or operator on request.

A one-way fare is good for two and half hours after it’s activated, UTA said. The app will show how much time is left on a fare before it expires.

For more information about the app, visit the UTA’s GoRide FAQ page at http://www.rideuta.com/Rider-Tools/UTA-Goride-faqs.
