OGDEN — The Indie Ogden Bizarre team is looking to call attention to the Marshall White Center by bringing its weekly market to the community center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday with 70 vendors showcasing work of local artists. Food trucks, including Los Churros Del Norte, will be parked outside the center, located at 222 28th St., for the event.

“We will be everywhere we can fit,” said Daniel Mathews, a South Ogden native and facilitator of the Ogden Bizarre, who added that he feels compelled to show the city there is no lack of use at the MWC. According to Mathews, city officials previously claimed a lack of activity at the center, questioning a need for it.

Having spent much time at the MWC in both his youth and adulthood, Mathews believes there is not only a need for the center, but there is also value in having it.

“Marshall White and the center represent everything wonderful about Ogden,” Mathews said. “It’s an inspiration to the people of Ogden about how we can do better.”

Similar to the MWC, the Ogden Bizarre provides opportunities. Mikaela Schaefer founded the market in 2009 to provide platforms and outlets for those in the arts and culture community who felt they were not getting the opportunity to showcase their work.

It will be Mathews’ first time hosting the Ogden Bizarre at the MWC. He says even though they usually set up shop at The Monarch, they do move around the city, having previously been at Union Station and Ogden’s Own Distillery. Mathews and his team are looking forward to seeing action taken on the MWC.
