Portion of I-215 southbound lanes to see 12-hour closure on Sunday

By Deborah Wilber - | Nov 5, 2021

NORTH SALT LAKE — Immediate repair to a road joint along a stretch of Interstate 215 between Redwood Road and Legacy Parkway will result in the closure of all southbound lanes from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Road joints, formed inside concrete slabs, are necessary to allow for expansion, contraction and warping of a roadway, according to Mitch Shaw, Utah Department of Transportation region one senior communications manager.

A lot of the work needs to be done in warm temperatures, and UDOT officials believe the daylight hours of Sunday will be the least impactful to motorists.

“Obviously, we would never close the 215 on a workday,” Shaw said.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes such as Legacy Parkway and Redwood Road.

Construction is expected to last 12 hours; however, schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. For up to date road and traffic conditions, visit udottraffic.utah.gov.
