OGDEN — City council members have yet to reach a decision on the future of the Marshall White Center. The city plans to set aside $1 million a year for five years to improve the recreation center located in downtown Ogden.

According to Ronald White, head of the Marshall White Advisory Committee, council members would like more input from the community. There is debate over making improvements to the existing building or tearing it down and building a new, bigger facility.

Angel Castillo, with the Ogden Chapter of the NAACP, is pushing for a new center. She suspects a new building could cost up to $30 million. Ogden City Communications Manager Mike McBride said a consultant presented three different renderings to the city council and none were ultimately selected.

“I don’t believe they did a deep enough exploration,” McBride said. An Ogden City Council joint work session is scheduled on Nov. 9 for the MWC.
