OGDEN — The Weber County Republican Women’s Club is getting a new leader, Lorraine Brown, who’s hoping to boost the group’s profile.

“We want to move beyond our traditional role as a social club and want to build membership, motivate women of all ages to be civically involved and attract strong female candidates,” Brown said. “We are reaching out to all women in Weber County, young and old, in an attempt to rebuild the club and build solid support for female Republican candidates.”

Brown takes over next Monday from Darcy Kruitbosch and a “transition meeting” is planned for the occasion, open to the public. Susan Madsen, founding director of the Utah Women and Leadership Project, will be the featured speaker.

Monday’s meeting starts at n0on and will be held in the Ice Sheet complex on the campus of Weber State University, 4930 Harrison Blvd. A catered lunch will be available for $15, though the event is free for those who don’t get food or bring their own.

Brown is an Ogden attorney who unsuccessfully vied for the District 10 seat in the Utah House in 2018 and 2020.
