MOUNTAIN GREEN — A 71-year-old man was killed late Tuesday when his motorcycle went off Trappers Loop Highway, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The motorcycle, southbound at about 11:30 p.m., left the pavement to the right on a curve and hit the guardrail, the UHP said in a news release.
The man was thrown about 150 feet down a steep embankment. The Mountain Green Fire Protection District said in a social media post that firefighters, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a medical examiner used ropes to descend the slope and recover the body.
Firefighters and state troopers used thermal imaging devices to search the darkness for other possible victims of the crash.
The road was closed for several hours during the investigation.

It was the second fatal motorcycle crash this month on the mountainous Trappers Loop. The UHP reported that a rider was killed on Aug. 4 when his motorcycle drifted from the highway, with speeding cited as a possible cause.
