HUNTSVILLE — A pickup truck plunged into Pineview Reservoir on Tuesday, the driver able to get out of the vehicle before it submerged, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

The 8:49 a.m. crash at 5103 E. state Route 39 was reported to emergency dispatch by people who saw the truck leave the road, according to a news release by the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden said Wednesday that the driver, a 24-year-old Ogden man, was not seriously injured. Weber County Marine Patrol and the Weber County Search and Rescue Dive Team helped retrieve the pickup from the reservoir, the sheriff’s office said.

Roden said a preliminary investigation showed that the pickup was eastbound when it drifted off the pavement to the right and the driver overcorrected, with the truck crossing back over the road, a gravel pullout and a parking lot before it rolled down an embankment into the water.

“He was able to get out before it sank and he was able to get back over to the shore,” Roden said. No one else was in the truck.

The crash is under further investigation to determine why the pickup drifted off the highway, Roden said.

The UHP spokesperson said a diver hooked a cable to the truck, a Chevrolet Silverado, which was then lifted out of the reservoir by a wrecker.
