OGDEN — A portion of 25th Street is now open to local traffic. The Utah Transit Authority announced the reopening of 25th Street between Washington Boulevard and Adams Avenue on Friday.
UTA Spokesperson James Larsen said construction crews are still working to complete sidewalks but the roadway is completely paved and open for access to businesses. The intersection of Adams Avenue and 25th Street, however, is still a construction zone as UTA works to complete 25th Street between Adams and Jefferson avenues.
Construction for the UTA’s new bus rapid transit line through the heart of the city created many detours, lane shifts and road closures, including the longterm closure of 25th Street between Washington and Jefferson, which began on Jan. 3.
While traffic on Porter Avenue via 25th Street for residents and service vehicles remains accessible during the closure, patrons of Thai Curry Kitchen, Cuppa, The Lotus Cafe and other businesses are being directed to park on Jefferson or Adams avenues.
The Monarch, located at 455 25th St., has been accessible from 26th Street, with free parking passes available to the State Parking Lot.
Larsen said UTA sought to provide alternate parking for The Monarch during construction so as not to prevent them from running their business. Street parking in front of the event center is reportedly now an option.
According to Larsen, 25th Street should be fully opened to all traffic sometime in August, with the BRT line coming to completion in the fall of 2023.
“With construction projects, you never know what you are going to run into,” Larsen said, adding that concrete shortage have been holding up the completion of sidewalks.
With the overall project on schedule, Larsen said he and his colleagues are excited to see it coming together, with three BRT stations due to open on Aug. 29 at Weber State University. Buses will be running between the center of campus, student housing and the Dee Events Center every 10 minutes.
Once completed, the full BRT line will link downtown Ogden around The Junction with WSU and McKay-Dee Hospital, with buses arriving at stops every 10-15 minutes on weekdays and every 15-30 minutes on weekends, according to UTA.
