OGDEN — This Friday, Utah’s Chinese American community will unveil the Golden Spike Chinese Art Exhibition at Ogden’s Union Station Museum. The exhibit will feature original works done during the COVID-19 pandemic by artists, all of whom are descended from Chinese immigrants, between the ages of 7 and 17.

In addition to the works published in “One Hundred Years Immigration History of Chinese in North America: A Hand-Drawn Picture Book,” the show will include Chinese calligraphy created by members of the Salt Lake Eastern Art Club.

The paintings, provided by the North America Maple Cultural Center in Massachusetts, will be on display until June 30. May is also Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the United States.

According a press release, the event is a celebration of the important contributions by Chinese railroad workers in the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, as well as, recognition for Chinese American contributions to the social and economic development of the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell, Utah Sen. John Johnson and World Trade Center Utah President Miles Hansen are among numerous leaders expected to speak at the opening event, which is scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Golden Spike Chinese Art Show is jointly organized by the Utah Chinese Golden Spike Society, the Chinese Railroad Workers Descendants Association, Salt Lake Eastern Art Club, North America Maple Culture Center and the Union Station Museum.
