Editor’s note: U-Talk is a weekly feature in which we ask five local residents to tell us their thoughts about a particular issue. Responses may be edited for clarity and length.

“The indictment is proper because he broke the law. It has been acknowledged by the lawyer that paid Stormy Daniels. I think, also, that the timing is great; it is time for justice to be served. … I think that it is a good thing knowing that just because you are the president, just because you got money, just because you are white and wealthy, these things don’t mean that you are above the law. … I would just like for America to be a little more equal with its justice system, no matter if you are white and wealthy.” — Dunnese Scott, Ogden

“It sets more of a standard if you want to go into office, because it is a way to make sure that people who become presidents know that they are not above the law. In reality there is only one true fact, no one is above the law because this is an equal land.” — Christopher Quintana, Ogden

“I mean, I think he should have been in jail a long time ago. … He encouraged a bunch a people to invade the Capitol, which it was pretty funny, like, they really did it. I don’t know, but it is pretty funny — they did a class field trip into the Capitol. He should be in jail. I was watching the (mixed martial arts) fight last night and he was (in the) front row seats. … I feel like no one is taking it seriously, it is just a joke. He should be in jail, but nobody cares.” — Harrison Fuller, Ogden

“It is for sure setting a bad precedent for our future presidents. It is a smear campaign just because of who the guy is as a character. … It is because of his character, and we were given this unprecedented view of how media and politics work together. And so, because he let us see behind that curtain it kind of shook up things. I really think it put a positive spin on why we shouldn’t trust our government. He is so different than any other president than we’ve ever had. He isn’t an 80-year-old, 40-year veteran in the political realm, right. … Because of his unrebuked honesty, I think it really opened Americans’ eyes.” — Jacob Fischer, Ogden

“If you look back in history, he is the one that got caught. I think he has been setting a bad example since he became president. Just because he is a president doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t go to jail. He is just like me and you when it comes to the law; our presidents are not above the law.” — Cindy Miller, Ogden
