OGDEN — Historic 25th Street is getting a little love.

Ogden road crews are giving the high-profile commercial street — home to numerous restaurants, bars and other shops — a new surface. The work on the two-block section between Wall and Grant avenues started Tuesday and, weather permitting, should be done on Thursday, by and large, said Jay Lowder, head of the Ogden Public Services Department.

Completion of painting and striping, however, is more contingent on weather conditions.

As of Wednesday morning, road crews had milled the surface and next they will put a fresh layer of asphalt on top. Lowder said the road configuration — one lane of traffic going each way with angled parking on either side of the street — won’t change.

“Everything’s going to stay the same. We’re just trying to get it back into good shape for the merchants,” Lowder said.

The upgrade is part of the routine, cyclical maintenance Ogden streets get from year to year, Lowder said. He hopes the new surface lasts 20 years. Crews are trying to get the work done quickly to minimize the impact to business operators.
