Progress continues on the new Marshall White Center in this undated photo. As of late-December 2023, the project remains on schedule.

OGDEN — Ogden’s new Marshall White Center continues to take shape as winter sets in and is still anticipated for an on-time completion.

Ogden City Recreation Manager Edd Bridge told the Standard-Examiner on Thursday that construction has been progressing rapidly, though there’s still a need to use caution.

“We’re happy with the progress we’ve made,” he said. “This is kind of the time of the unknowns — dealing with the soil and we’ve discovered some old foundations in the ground, so we’ve been remedying those and taking care of those. But we’re still on target to open in the spring of 2025.”

He said one factor has been especially helpful since construction began over the summer.

We’ve been blessed and lucky with how the weather’s held out for them to make a lot of progress.” he said.

Bridge said crews are currently adding in footings and excavating other areas of the site.

“In the next couple of months, you’ll see some stuff start to go vertical,” he said. “They’ve started pouring a couple of walls, but they’re mainly getting the footings taken care of.”

He said crews also are beginning to stage materials on the site for the next phase of construction.

While the original Marshall White Center structure is gone and the new one is just beginning to take shape, the center’s work still continues. Following its closure for reconstruction, several programs were distributed among other community spaces throughout Ogden.

Bridge said these programs have continued to be successful in their temporary homes and some may even expand as the new center welcomes these programs into its doors.

“Those have been phenomenal to the point I was having a discussion with the library Saturday,” he said. “They were like, ‘When the building opens up, we would still like you to offer these programs at the library.'”

He said that there’s an opening for discussions to have many programs at both the new Marshall White Center and mirroring programs at their current temporary homes.

“I don’t see why we wouldn’t offer them at Marshall White and satellite sites because they are going so well,” he said.

Bridge characterized the current state of construction as on time and that the spring 2025 deadline is very attainable.
