This week, Utah Transit Authority opened the second statewide My BeUTAHful Community Student Art Competition.

Students are encouraged to enter the competition and highlight the future they hope to see in their neighborhoods and emphasize the diversity and beauty of their communities, Carl Arky, senior Media Relations specialist with UTA, said in a press release.

The competition is for visual art and submissions will be accepted until March 20.

“This forum gives young people throughout the state an opportunity for self-expression through the creation of original public art,” Arky said. “The 2023 theme is ‘Imagine + Lead + Change.'”

K-12 students throughout Utah are invited to submit their original art pieces. Twelve winners from four age groups will receive a $100 VISA gift card and a UTA pass for the summer. The teachers of the winning students will also receive a $100 gift card for classroom supplies.

Judging will be separated into four age categories: Kindergarten through second grade, third grade through sixth grade, seventh grade through ninth grade and tenth grade through twelfth grade

“The young artists’ work will be seen and enjoyed by thousands of people while enhancing, celebrating, and representing many of the communities UTA serves,” Arky said. “The winning pieces will be displayed on UTA buses and trains for one year, as well as displayed inside buses from other transit agencies, in public parks, and at the 2023 Utah Arts Festival.”

UTA has partnered with several organizations on this program, including the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, the Utah State Library, the Utah Division of Indian Affairs, Utah Arts Festival and the Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs. More information is available at rideuta.com/art.
