Larry Taylor recently accomplished a feat that very few do.

Last Thursday, Taylor officially turned 100 years old at the Harrison Regent retirement community in Ogden. A party was held to mark the occasion complete with cake as dozens of friends, family and other well-wishers celebrated the moment.

Taylor told the Standard-Examiner he was originally born in Salt Lake City and lived in Los Angeles for a time, which started his lifelong fandom of the University of Southern California Trojans.

He said there were a couple of factors that helped him make it a full century.

“Number one, good genes,” he said. “Number two, taking care of the beautiful body the lord gave me. That’s a big one.”

Taylor also had advice for those who want to live long.

“I think if you have a faith in the future, things work out because you’re happy,” he said. “If you’re happy, you live longer.”

He added that family has been extremely important to him through the years.

“I had a good life and we had a lot of good children,” he said. “We had four good children. Family and happiness encourage a person to live and enjoy life.”

Also during the party, Taylor received a visit from members of the Ogden City Fire Department who dropped off a card for his birthday.
