FARMINGTON — Lagoon Amusement Park plans to open this weekend, one week later than originally planned.

“We were scheduled to open last weekend but because of all the snow, we had to wait,” said Lagoon spokesperson Adam Leishman. “We’re grateful for all of the moisture, but we’re ready for spring and summer.”

The park will only be open on the weekend for now. It will open its daily schedule May 27.

“So right now we are open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,” Leishman said. “This is our typical preseason schedule.”

One of the biggest features guests can look forward to this year is the new rollercoaster ride, Primordial. The interactive ride is still under construction, Leishman said, but is expected to be open during the 2023 season.

The new ride at Lagoon is under construction on Friday, March 27, 2020.

“It’s our newest and biggest attraction to date,” he said. “This is a one-of-a-kind for Lagoon because the guests will be able to interact with the ride. That is unusual, in general, for the park. Most of the ride takes place inside of a gigantic mountain, which people have probably seen being built as they drive by the park.”

Much of the information about the ride is being kept a surprise, but Leishman said it’s been in the works for over seven years.

“We’ve worked with local and international designers and engineers and have utilized the Utah workforce to build it right here in Utah,” he said. “So the parts weren’t transported by boat. They were transported by road, which means we can have longer parts with fewer joints, which makes for a much smoother ride.”

Leishman said he didn’t have an exact price of the new rollercoaster, but said it’s Lagoon’s biggest investment to date.

As always, Leishman said safety is critical at Lagoon.
