The five people in the car hit by a semitruck early Wednesday morning on Interstate 15 in Farr West, killing three of them, were heading to Logan, where the driver lived.

Beyond that, officials don't have many details at this stage about their travel itinerary. "They were heading home to Logan, but unknown (what) their prior travel plans were," Sgt. Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol said Thursday.

Officials, though, named two of the three fatality victims. They are Tira Hanchor, 70, and Ekar Hanchor, 64, both of Enid, Oklahoma, along with a 17-year-old female from the Marshall Islands.

Roden also said the driver of the car hit by the semitractor-trailer was a 19-year-old man from Logan. The passenger was an 18-year-old female.

The five people were in a Nissan Altima when the car hit a deer in the left-hand lane of I-15 near milepost 349 at around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, officials say. The car pulled to the right lane, slowing down or stopping, when it was struck by a Freightliner semi from behind. The driver of the truck, uninjured, did not see the Nissan in time to stop.

Roden said the driver of the Nissan was in "pretty good shape" Thursday while the 18-year-old passenger remained in "serious condition."
