West Haven remains the fastest-growing city in Weber County, continuing to outpace expansion of other county locales by a wide margin.

The western Weber County locale also remains the second-fastest growing city in Utah, same as last year, according to new city-by-city U.S. Census Bureau population estimates for 2022 released last week. West Haven, with plenty of wide-open space around it, has led growth in Weber County, and now it has edged past North Ogden to become the third most-populous city, up a notch from fourth.

West Haven counted an estimated 22,395 people as of July 1, 2022, up 12.9% from 2021. That put it behind Ogden with 86,825 residents and Roy with 38,785, but ahead of North Ogden with 21,855, according to the numbers released May 18. North Ogden sat in the third spot according to estimates for 2021 with 21,490 people, followed by West Haven, which then had 19,382 people.

In Davis County, Syracuse is the growth leader for 2022, same as 2021. The city in northern Davis County, where some of the last remaining open spaces are located, grew by 6.5% between 2021 and 2022 to 35,561 people. Two other northern Davis County cities were high on the growth list in the county — Clearfield, up 5.6% to 34,062, and West Point, up 3.8% to 11,892. Farmington in southern Davis County sat between Clearfield and West Point with growth of 4.4% in the one-year period to 25,660.

Here are some more takeaways:

  • West Haven’s 12.9% growth made it the second-fastest growing Utah locale, surpassed only by the small Wasatch County town of Hideout, which grew by 14.1% to 1,315 in 2022. Census Bureau figures list 253 incorporated locales in Utah.
  • The next-fastest growing Weber County city in the state after West Haven was Plain City, sitting in the 64th spot for Utah. It grew by 2.4% between 2021 and 2022 to 8,321 residents. After that came North Ogden in the 104th spot.
  • Syracuse was the 10th-fastest growing Utah locale while Clearfield sat in No. 15 spot. Farmington’s growth was 28th fastest in Utah while West Point’s was 34th.
