OGDEN — Political columnist and commentator George Will will speak at Weber State University on Wednesday as part of activities to celebrate Constitution Day later in the month.

The event starts at 12:30 p.m. in the Haven J. Barlow Lecture Hall on the first floor of Lindquist Hall. It’s open to the public, but seating preference in the lecture hall will be given to Weber State students. Additional seating will be available in an overflow classroom with a livestream of the interview.

“It’s important for people to know about the country’s founding documents,” said Leah Murray, director of Weber State’s Olene S. Walker Institute of Politics and Public Service, the host. “It helps people create and foster a shared identity. There’s too much in this world that divides us, and the Constitution should be and can be something that unites us.”

Will writes columns for The Washington Post on politics and domestic and foreign affairs. He began writing for the Post in 1974 and received the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1977. He is also an author and regular contributor to MSNBC and NBC News.

Boyd Matheson, the host of KSL NewsRadio’s “Inside Sources,” will serve as interviewer of Will.

Constitution Day, actually Sept. 17, is meant “to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787,” according to the National Archives.
