Pleasant View PD releases identity of motorcyclist killed in crash

PLEASANT VIEW — Authorities have released the name of a motorcyclist who was involved in a fatal collision with an SUV on Wednesday.
Pleasant View Police Chief Ryon Hadley told the Standard-Examiner that the victim was Joel Nielson, 56, of Salt Lake County. No other new details about the crash are being made available at this time.
The collision occurred at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening on the 2300 block of North Highway 89. According to Lt. Stetson Talbot, authorities responded to the crash almost immediately. After locating him, responders pronounced Nielson dead on the scene as a result of his injuries.
Talbot told the Standard-Examiner that the people in the SUV may have suffered minor injuries but ultimately were not taken for medical transport. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene following the crash and reportedly is cooperating with authorities on the investigation.
Recent precipitation notwithstanding, Talbot noted that the roadway was dry at the time of the accident. No other information about the traffic conditions or events that may have contributed to the crash have been provided.
The Weber County Crash Team is investigating the incident.
