OGDEN — Historic 25th Street is up for some potential national recognition from a major publication.

The section of 25th between Washington Boulevard and Wall Avenue is one of 20 finalists for “Best Main Street” in the USA TODAY Best Readers’ Choice Travel Awards for 2024.

Taylor Hartman, director of marketing and communications for Visit Ogden, told the Standard-Examiner that Historic 25th Street is worthy of the recognition.

“Historic 25th Street is an absolute gem and is completely unique to the rest of Utah,” he said. “We have an incredibly well-preserved piece of our past that we get to use, play in and enjoy, and that’s incredibly special.”

He said potentially winning in this contest and the outside recognition serves to boost a civic reputation that hasn’t always been the most positive.

“This kind of exposure can help people understand what Ogden is like today,” he said. “We’ve had a notorious history and a notorious past which we celebrate now, but it isn’t the current state of Ogden, Utah. A designation like this, and showing how incredibly well-preserved 25th Street is while showing how Ogden has met the modern era, we think is very important and something that we deserve.”

Other nominees include Bellevue, Pennsylvania; Emporia, Kansas; and Solvang, California.

The contest is open for voting by the public through April 8 and the results will be announced April 17.
