OGDEN — A main ogden thoroughfare is set to get some upgrade work over the summer.

This week, work began on Wall Avenue in a project that will extend from Riverdale to Harrisville.

Mitch Shaw, senior communications manager with the Utah Department of Transportation, detailed the project in an email to the Standard-Examiner on Wednesday.

UDOT, he wrote, will engage in asphalt pavement rehabilitation along Wall between Riverdale Road and 35th Street and from 23rd Street to U.S. Highway 89 in Harrisville. That will involve overnight road work between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays during the construction process, which is scheduled to last through the summer.

According to Shaw, the project also will involve the temporary closure of sidewalks as pedestrian ramps are demolished and reconstructed to conform with Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility requirements — work that a UDOT construction notice indicates will occur Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The $4.6 million project will include several other elements, including:

  • “Adjusting Manholes: Lowering utility accesses (i.e. manholes and water valves) to allow for milling.”
  • “Milling: Removing old asphalt which will make the roadway rough temporarily.”
  • “Paving: Applying new asphalt for a smooth finish.”
  • “Raising Manholes and Valves: Adjusting utility access points to the new roadway surface.”
  • “Roadway Striping: Applying final paint for striping/crosswalks/messages to new pavement.”

Shaw said he doesn’t expect any major, long-term closures for the roadway, but there will be lane shifts and temporary lane closures along the way. And, he added, “Nearby residents will notice construction-related noise and vibration.”

As of Wednesday, work was beginning on pedestrian items along the route, but a full timetable has yet to be made.

“We are currently replacing ADA ramps near Riverdale and heading north,” Shaw said. “Other construction schedules have not been determined.”
