The Utah State Tax Commission’s Motor Vehicle Division (DMV) is warning the public about a fraudulent text message circulating in Utah that falsely claims the recipient has an outstanding traffic ticket and threatens enforcement and legal actions if immediate payment is not made.
Scammers commonly use these deceptive tactics to pressure individuals into making payments without verifying the legitimacy of the claim.
How to Protect Yourself:
- Verify before paying – If you receive a suspicious notice regarding a traffic ticket or any other DMV related matter, contact the Utah DMV directly at 801-297-7780 to confirm its authenticity.
- Do not respond to the text message – Avoid clicking any links or calling any phone numbers listed in the fraudulent messages.

Demand is hot while gas prices stay cool
With one month left to go in the summer driving season, drivers are enjoying favorable gas prices at the pump. The national average for a gallon of regular dropped two cents from last week to $3.14.
July comes to an end with a monthly average of $3.15, mirroring prices seen in July 2021- the last time summer gas prices were this low.
“Although crude oil prices and gas demand have seen a slight uptick,” says John Treanor, spokesperson for AAA MWG, “the increase has not been enough to push prices higher.” Utah drivers will find an average price of $3.38 a gallon, a 1 cent jump from last week.
According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of unleaded gas in Ogden is $3.34, which is the lowest of any of the large metro area in Utah.
