Uintah Engine 91 makes its way down the Riverdale City Old Glory Days Parade in Riverdale on Saturday, July 4, 2015.

RIVERDALE — With the Independence Day holiday on the horizon, several cities around Weber and northern Davis counties have either held or are preparing for their annual municipal celebrations and fireworks displays.

That includes Riverdale’s Old Glory Days — a multi-day celebration beginning with a golf tournament June 28 and culminating on the night of July 4 with what the city’s event schedule states are “the best fireworks in Weber County.”

The event is overseen by the Riverdale City Community Services Department and its director, Rich Taylor, who works to present a celebration worthy of the city’s roughly 9,000 residents, as well as the thousands more who work, shop and travel through the city each day.

“I felt like Riverdale always had a reputation of good fireworks. So, when I came on board, I just didn’t want to screw that up,” Taylor joked. “I wanted to make sure that we still kept that reputation.”

More than a decade later, it’s safe to assume the city’s reputation remains firmly intact.

According to Taylor, this year’s fireworks display at Old Glory Days was designed by the Layton-based Dragon Dynamite Fireworks, and will feature 1,094 individual shells and 106 cakes.

“We’re a small community, but we get a really big turnout for that day,” Taylor said. “We’ve really been focusing on trying to get our businesses involved in the parade because we have so many businesses in our city. We don’t have a ton of residents in comparison.”

Taylor noted that organizations seeking to get involved with Old Glory Days can still find information on how to do so via the city’s website. In the meantime, several other cities in the area are preparing for their own celebrations around the holiday.

The following is a list of some of the city celebrations and fireworks shows being held in the area around the July 4 holiday:

On July 4, the city’s parade will start on 1800 North in front of the City Office at 9:30 a.m. and will continue on to Mountain View Park. Fireworks will be displayed at Smith Family Park at 10 p.m., and will be preceded by food trucks, vendors and a dance party.
