Layton PD: 2-year-old killed in auto-pedestrian accident

LAYTON — A child was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident in Layton Friday morning.
According to a press release received Saturday from the Layton Police Department, Layton Police and Fire were called to an auto-pedestrian accident in a business parking lot in the 1400 block of E Church Street around 10 a.m. Friday.
“First responders determined that a two-year-old female child had been struck by a truck in the parking lot,” the release said. “Layton fire requested medical transport, and the child was flown by AirMed to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condiiton. Despite extensive life-saving efforts, the child tragically succumbed to her injuries.”
The release adds that the Layton Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit and Major Crimes Unit also responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the child’s mother was parked next to a truck operated by an 18-year-old male,” the release said. “Two children were outside of the vehicles when the driver completed cleaning his vehicle and began to leave. The two-year-old, positioned near the front passenger side of the truck, was struck. The driver has been fully cooperative with investigators.”
