The Cardboard Exchange Expo is set to make its second appearance in Ogden at the Ogden Golden Spike Arena Exhibit Hall Saturday, Sept. 13 (10 a.m.-7 p.m.) and Sunday, Sept. 14 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.).
Mariah Paez, event manager for The Cardboard Exchange TCG, told the Standard-Examiner Thursday there will be a lot in store for attendees this weekend.
“It’s a trading card show that has trading cards and collectibles — anything from Pokémon to sports cards, Magic: The Gathering, Arcana, Yu-Gi-Oh,” she said. “We also have a lot of vendors who carry any type of collectibles. You’ll see a lot of 3D printed items like Poké Balls, dice towers, stuff that’s for Dungeons & Dragons.”
She said there will be around 160 vendors available at this weekend’s expo. Additionally, four tattoo artists, Taqueria La Tapatia and Golden Spikes concessions will be available at the event.
According to a press release from Visit Ogden, some special guests will be appearing this weekend as well.
“One of the weekend’s highlights is the appearance of Jake Jarman of Jarchomp Collectibles, a nationally recognized YouTube creator with over 162,000 subscribers and 55 million views,” the release said. “Jarman, known for his impressive Pokémon collection — featuring individual cards valued up to $35,000 — will showcase his work and meet with attendees. Family-run businesses like The O’Bros Collectibles will also be present, underscoring the community spirit that defines the expo.”
Paez said this will be the second Cardboard Exchange Expo in Ogden since The Cardboard Exchange TCG began holding expos across the western U.S. a year ago.
“We did the last one back in May here at the Golden Spike Arena,” she said. “It was really great. We had around 1,500 attendees, so it was really busy the whole time. We heard there were a lot of great things people had to say about it and they were really impressed with the show.”
She said she’s hopeful to break the 1,500-person attendance seen in May.
“We’ve been advertising like crazy,” she said. “It’s so cool to see all of the new people we get to meet and people in all different walks of life. We have some older people who you would never really expect would be interested in Pokémon or Dungeons & Dragons. It’s been really cool to see the crowds that we bring in and the people that come to the different events. It’s a family event — we want to see people bringing their children of all ages … It’s grown a lot. We’ve seen a huge spike in events like these. I think Utah is a little bit behind other states, but we’re quickly catching up.”
