Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participate in a solemn assembly during the Saturday morning session of general conference at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 4, 2026.

Dallin H. Oaks was sustained as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a prophet, seer and revelator in a churchwide solemn assembly Saturday morning during the first session of general conference at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Solemn assemblies are special, sacred meetings held only on rare occasions, including the first general conference after a new church president is selected, according to the church. Saturday’s proceedings came following Oaks’ call as church president on Oct. 14, 2025, following the death of Russell M. Nelson on Sept. 27, 2025.

Members of the First Presidency, which includes first counselor Henry B. Eyring and second counselor D. Todd Christofferson in addition to Oaks, the Quorum of the Twelve apostles and other senior church leaders were also sustained during the solemn assembly.

“I express our gratitude as leaders of the church for our members’ sustaining vote, prayers and support,” Oaks said prior to the sustaining. “We also pray for you to be guided and prospered as you continue the great service you give to the children of God throughout the world.”

Additional leaders were announced in the Saturday afternoon session. Christofferson announced eight new General Authority Seventies and a new primary general presidency.

Elder Benjamin M. Z. Tai, 53, of Hong Kong, was called to the Presidency of the Seventy. He previously served as an assistant executive director of the Missionary Department and an area assistant in the North American Southeast Area.

Called to the General Authority Seventies were Elder Christian C. Chigbundu, 51, born in Ahiaba Okpuala, Nigeria; Elder Matthew J. Eyring, 56, born in Palo Alto, California; Elder Hatch U. Fale, 46, born in Provo; Elder James O Fantone, 54, born in Manila, Philippines; Elder Kevin J. Hathaway; 51, born in Billings, Montana; Elder Thabo Lebethoa, 50, born in Soweto, South Africa; Elder Jeremiah J. Morgan, 55, born in Kettering, Ohio; and Elder Paul H. Sinclair, 60, born in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The Primary General Presidency was reorganized, with Rosemary K. Chibota, 58, from Zimbabwe and living in South Jordan, called as president; Nina M. Garfield, 67, of Orem, called as first counselor and Theresa A. Collins, 64, of Draper, called as second counselor.
