Mayor Sheri Bingham looks on during a Hooper City Council meeting Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025.

Hooper Mayor Sheri Bingham announced on Facebook this week that the City Council is in need of a new council member.

Council member David Craig and his family are moving to Iowa, she said in the post.

“I am grateful for David’s service to the city, and the insight he gave to the city council,” she said in the post. “He cares deeply for Hooper City and he showed how much he cared by every decision that he made. He will be deeply missed on the council and he and his family will be deeply missed in Hooper. I wish them the very best in their future adventures.”

Bingham went on to say that Hooper City will be accepting applications for District 2 through Aug. 17. The application period started Monday.

She said a new council member will be appointed at the Aug. 20 City Council meeting and that the application can be found on the city’s website at hoopercity.gov.

In a response to a question in the comments of the post, Bingham said applicants would be interviewed by her and the council at the Aug. 20 City Council meeting and all voting would be done at the meeting.

This is the third recent appointment involving a City Council in Weber County.

Annette Prall was appointed to the Harrisville City Council on July 14 following the departure of Karen Taylor-Fawcett, who also was moving out of state.

Jeremy Peterson was appointed to the Ogden City Council on July 21 after it was announced that Shaun Myers was vacating the seat to be a member of the presidency in the Ogden temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Prall was selected after an application and interview process that involved six other candidates, while Peterson’s appointment came after an application and interview process involving 18 other candidates.
