Peterson, a former four-term House representative for District 9, was appointed in the first round of votes, with support from Flor Lopez, Ken Richey, Vice Chair Dave Graf and Chair Richard Hyer.

Arlene Anderson, current Ogden School District Board member, received two votes, while Jeffrey Heiner, Ogden School Foundation executive board secretary, received one vote.

Kevin Lundell and Alicia Washington each voted for Anderson, while Myers voted for Heiner.

Peterson and Anderson each had two votes after the first five council member votes, but the votes of Graf and Hyer sealed the appointment for Peterson.

Each candidate was given four minutes total to answer four questions that were listed on a television screen behind the city council members for the candidates to see as they stood at the lectern.

Names were randomly selected from a bowl.

The candidates were, in order of who spoke, Eric Holmes, Pieder Beeli, Jose Torres, Juliene Snyder, John M. Thompson, Rick Southwick, J. Levi Andersen, Jeffrey Heiner, Sherri Morreale, John M. Thompson, Sylvia Newman, Heath Satow, Jeremy Peterson, Alexander Castagno, Arlene Anderson, Eric Neff, Jeremy Shinoda, Travis Pate and Andrey Akhmedov.

Myers is leaving the Ogden City Council to be in the presidency of the Ogden temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Peterson, who will take office Aug. 1, will serve the remainder of Myers’ term, which ends in January 2028.
